A. Background Objectives
The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) is a regional multilateral development finance institution established in 1963 with a mandate to further the economic development and social progress of African countries, individually and collectively.
The Bank has approximately over 2000 staff members, who have been recruited from a wide geographic area only limited by membership in the Bank. There are currently 80 different nationalities from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas represented within the Bank making the institution multicultural in every sense of the word. The Bank has two official languages: English and French. It co-operates with a large network of international development partners.
Within the Senior Vice Presidency Complex, the Business Transformation (SNBT) Department supports the Senior Vice-President (SVP) in the execution of responsibilities related to ensuring organizational effectiveness. The Department works to ensure that the Bank, as an organization, is fit for purpose and can adapt to changes in its internal and external environment.

Mission Overview
The SAP system plays a central role for AfDB, as it is the platform that automates most of core functions. In 2018 the Bank initiated the phased transformation of its SAP platform to address the increasing business needs and solve the critical challenges faced with the old SAP platform.
Following the successful completion of the first phase of the SAP transformation which entailed converting to SAP S/4 Hana and leveraging SAP business intelligence and cloud solutions, the Bank initiated a second phase which focuses on developing an integrated IT platform to provide end-to-end tracking of all project management activities and documents as well as enable borrowers and partners to perform transactions and access information.
The main goal of this consultancy is to provide advisory services on the implementation of the SAP transformation and more specifically on the second phase project. In this regard, the Bank is seeking the services of a Solution architect who will act as technical advisor for all project activities taking into consideration the project quality objectives.
B. Scope of work
The assignment will require strong and sound expert in all phases of the software development life cycle with extensive knowledge of SAP environment.
The consultant’s duties will include the following activities:
• Work directly with the PMO, the IT Department team and the Director SNBT to ensure soundness of solutions proposed by SAP.
• Interact with the SAP Implementation Architect on behalf of the Bank.
• Generate convincing and substantiated technology and architecture recommendations.
• Identify and highlight key integration points with third party systems.
• Perform problem analysis (identify root causes, outline resolution options, and recommend appropriate actions to resolve problems).
• Work closely with the Program Management Office (PMO) to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised.
C. Deliverables Expected
The following is the list of expected deliverables during and at the end of the assignment:
• Data migration strategy as applicable
• Common routines and utilities.
• Program specifications or prototypes.
• Backup, recovery and restart procedures.
• Program Designs
• Systems that meet functional design specifications
• System and program tests
• System and program documentation
D. Duration and Timetable for the Assignment
This is a part time assignment for a period of twelve (12) months, renewable subject to satisfactory work.
E. Bank Contribution and Institutional Arrangement
a) The following documentation will be provided by the Bank to the Consultant for her/his assignment: project plan, function specifications…
b) The consultant will work closely with the project team, and other resources in the project management office, to manage project problems, risks...
c) In the course of performing the work, the consultant is called upon to collaborate with the core team.
d) At the end of the contract, a performance evaluation will be carried out to assess the quality of the consultant's work.
e) The Bank will provide the consultant with the following list: VPN access, access to SAP systems, DARMS, Teams , creation of an AD account.

REMUNERATION
The consultant will receive a daily rate based on his experience. No additional benefits or per diem will be paid. The individual consultant is responsible for his/her own health insurance and own accommodation costs. The consultant should propose rate for remote delivery.
F. Duty Station
The work will be carried out fully remotely.
G. Essential Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Competencies
• Master/Engineering degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in solution development in SAP, including technical architecture, application development, database management.
• Knowledge of SAP CML is an advantage.
• Understanding of agile methods and processes, and capability of supporting agile project teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt.
• Understand technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
• Excellent analytical and technical skills
• Knowledge of all components of an enterprise technical architecture
• Excellent understanding of application development methodologies and infrastructure
• Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
• Proven ability to work well with others
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
H. Supervisor
The consultant will work under the supervision of the Director of the Business Transformation Department.
